Frequently Asked Questions
Common questions from small businesses about IT support, managed services, and working with iKonyk Solutions.
About iKonyk Solutions
How long has iKonyk Solutions been in business?
We’ve been supporting small businesses since 1986. Paul Konyk founded the company and remains personally involved in every client relationship. When something goes wrong, you’re talking to someone who knows your systems.
What areas do you serve?
We serve Calgary and surrounding communities including Airdrie, Okotoks, Strathmore, and Chestermere. Remote support is available province-wide across Alberta.
Do you work with small businesses or only larger companies?
Small businesses are our focus. Most of our clients have between 2 and 50 employees. We’re set up specifically to give small businesses the same level of IT support that larger companies take for granted — without the enterprise price tag.
IT Support & Response
How quickly can you respond to an IT emergency?
For existing managed IT clients, we typically respond within 15–30 minutes during business hours (Monday to Friday, 8am–6pm) — often faster, since our monitoring frequently catches an issue before you’ve noticed it yourself. Once we’re on it, remote issues are commonly resolved in the same session; there’s no ticket queue to wait behind, because managed clients get priority response by default, not as an upsell.
If your business runs outside standard hours, or you have a specific high-stakes period — month-end processing, a product launch, a critical deadline — extended coverage can be arranged in advance so you’re not relying on best-effort response when it matters most.
Do you offer remote support or do you have to come on-site?
Most IT problems don’t actually need someone standing in front of your computer — they need someone who knows what they’re doing, connected to it. Using secure remote access tools, we can connect to your systems within minutes of a call and resolve the majority of issues — software errors, account and password problems, configuration changes, slow performance — without anyone driving across the city first.
That said, some things genuinely need a physical visit: hardware failures, new equipment setup, network wiring, or a printer that needs to be physically inspected. When that’s the case, we’ll tell you honestly rather than trying to troubleshoot it remotely for an hour first. Remote-first isn’t about avoiding site visits — it’s about not making you wait for one when the fix takes five minutes over a screen-share.
Can you help if we already have some internal IT staff?
Yes — this is sometimes called co-managed IT, and it’s a common setup among our clients. Many small businesses have one or two internal people handling day-to-day requests, but no bandwidth left for 24/7 monitoring, security oversight, or the bigger projects that keep getting pushed to next month.
We slot in around your existing staff rather than replacing them. That usually means we handle after-hours monitoring and alerting, security patching and threat response, an escalation point for anything your internal team gets stuck on, and dedicated project work — a migration, a new office setup, a system overhaul — that’s hard to do properly while also fielding daily help-desk requests. Your internal person keeps the relationships and institutional knowledge; we cover the parts that need a bigger team and round-the-clock coverage to do well.
Managed IT Services
What is managed IT and how is it different from regular IT support?
Regular IT support is reactive: something breaks, you call, someone eventually shows up, and you pay for that visit. It works, but you’re always a step behind — paying to fix problems after they’ve already cost you time and disrupted your day.
Managed IT flips that around. We monitor your systems around the clock, apply security patches and updates before they become an opening for attackers, and watch for early warning signs — a hard drive starting to fail, a server running low on resources — so we can act before anything actually goes down. Support is included for one flat monthly fee instead of a per-incident bill, so there’s no reason to put off calling about something small before it becomes something big.
Most small businesses that make the switch find it costs less overall, simply because far fewer things break in the first place.
What does a managed IT agreement include?
A managed IT agreement with us covers the day-to-day work of keeping your systems healthy, not just fixing them when they break. That includes 24/7 monitoring of your servers, workstations, and network so problems get caught early; patch management and software updates applied on a regular schedule instead of whenever someone remembers; ongoing security monitoring and threat alerts; and regular health checks with plain-language reporting, so you actually know what’s happening with your systems instead of taking our word for it.
You also get priority response when something does come up — managed clients go to the front of the queue, not into a general support ticket. All of it is billed as one predictable monthly cost, so IT stops being a source of surprises and becomes just another fixed line item, like rent or insurance.
Cloud & Microsoft 365
Can you help us move to Microsoft 365 or set up cloud services?
Yes. We handle Microsoft 365 migrations, setup, licensing, and ongoing support — including email, Teams, SharePoint, and OneDrive. We also set up secure remote access and cloud file sharing for teams working from multiple locations.
Custom Software
Do you build custom software?
Yes — this is something few IT companies offer. We design and build custom web applications, internal tools, databases, and workflow automation tailored to how your business actually operates — not adapted from an off-the-shelf product.
Pricing & Getting Started
How much does IT support cost?
Pricing depends on the scope of support your business needs. We offer a free 30-minute discovery call to understand your situation and provide an honest recommendation — no obligation, no sales pitch.
How do I find out if iKonyk is the right fit for my business?
The easiest way is to book a free 30-minute discovery call — we’ll talk through your current setup, what’s working, and what isn’t. If we’re a good fit, we’ll tell you. If we’re not, we’ll tell you that too. Book a call here.
